Solidworks 2018 Launch Event
Is it just me, or does it seem like no time at all since we were last ushering in the latest version of SolidWorks; 12 months later we are at it again!
With clear blue skies overhead, around 200 delegates converged on the impressive French style Chateau Impney hotel in Droitwich for one of the first Solid Solutions launch events of SolidWorks 2018.
It was a chance to catch up with users from many different industries, indulge in Solid Solutions hospitality and experience a whirlwind tour of SolidWorks latest functionality, improvements and productivity tips.
Without a guest speaker this year the event schedule was fully dedicated to the user experience and how to get as much as possible from the software. All major product areas had enhancements included; some of them very simple and effective such as being able to reverse the tangency direction in flipped sketches, while others were more complex and radical.
Some of the highlights that particularly caught our attention were the option to add a bounding box reference feature, the assembly mis-alignment mate, the inclusion of topology optimisation in Simulation Professional and the ability to direct edit triangle mesh files like stl format.
All in all it was great to see how SolidWorks have been busy responding to customer feedback and enhancing the functionality of their product. As I suspect is the case with many of you, I’m just hoping for a little bit of free time so I can get to try it all!
