GDPR: what it is, what we are doing about it and what we need from you
GDPR seems to be the buzz acronym of the moment and is certainly creating fear, if not a total state of panic, into the heart of some companies. So what actually does it mean and what should you be expecting from us?
What does GDPR stand for?
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation and is being brought into force by the European Union to unify data protection and ease the flow of personal data across the EU when it comes into force on May 25th 2018.
The problem with our current legislation, the UK Data Protection Act, is that technology has progressed so quickly, there are modern issues that mean people are no longer in control of their personal data.
What changes will we see?
Once the legislation comes into effect, personal data can only be processed lawfully, transparently, and for a specific purpose. Once that purpose is fulfilled and the data is no longer required, it should be deleted.
In other words, each and every one of us has the right to be much more involved as to who has access to our personal data. We have the right, not only to give consent, but also to ask for data to be removed or deleted after a certain period of time.
What are Plunkett Associates doing to safeguard your personal data?
Be assured we have been working hard to ensure that our policies and procedures are up to date in order to comply with the GDPR guidelines. We have a professional support network to make certain that we will be operating legally and confidently to protect your data and privacy rights.
You will start to see small changes to our website letting you know when and why we require your consent to access your personal data. Our aim is to be as clear as possible, to ensure you have confidence that your data is being held responsibly and securely.
