3D Printing goes eco friendly
3D Printed ‘Hempstone’ could revolutionalise the construction industry by replacing concrete as we know it.
Reducing worldwide CO2 emissions by 7-8% is no mean feat and no small claim, but Chad Knutsen from USA thinks he can. His hempcrete mixture, made from micronized lime and refined hemp fibers, is 3D printed into building blocks of differing sizes for use within the construction industry.
In time, the hempcrete will ‘petrify’ and “will actually absorb more CO2 than is released during construction”. The possibilities for a sustainable alternative to traditional construction methods are exciting and there are numerous options being explored currently. Read more at 3ders.org.
