Sintermask benefits

Selective Mask sintering (SMS) heralds a new era in Rapid Prototyping (RP) and Rapid Manufacturing (RM). Here is a process that can deliver functional parts made from nylon at a build rate that outstrips many concept modellers!

The headline characteristic of this machine has to be the build speed. Whilst exact numbers are a function of the material, the standard nylon achieves 30mm/hour. Further, this is not building some microscopic part but is applicable regardless of component cross section. So whereas most accepted RP processes get slower or more expensive as the part volume increases, this has no affect on SMS.

The second major attraction must be the lack of laser or sophisticated scanning system. This has been replaced with infrared lamps and a mask system that enables not only the high build speed but also the lower cost of ownership.

Whilst nylon is seen as the standard material, initial experiences show SMS to be well suited to running with a variety of materials. Customers are undertaking their own evaluations but should you have a specific requirement then please contact Plunkett Associates directly.
